How many cushions of the above specifications would you like us to make?

We sell a variety of foam. When you look on our website you will see a four digit number used as a descriptor, below is a break down of what those numbers mean in terms of quality and firmness. As always, we are here to assist. If you have any questions please call us and we will be happy to guide you in making the best choice for your project.

The first number you see on a piece of foam is often referred to as Density.  This is misleading. It actually indicates "Quality."

1.1 Is a lower quality value product used for crafting and some light use furniture projects.

1.8 is a medium quality foam. It is often used for upholstery projects often used in DIY projects. It is not the highest quality but professionals will sometimes use 1.8 for customers concerned about price or when the task does not require a higher end foam.

2.6 is referred to as "Forever foam." This is the foam most people select when investing in a project that they expect to last for many many years. This is the "blue foam" professionals use when hired to fix your favorite chair or couch.

Foam firmness is valuated through a test called Indentation Load Deflection (ILD), also known as Indentation Force Deflection. The numbers below indicate how much force or weight it would take to compress the foam by on inch.

10lb = ultra soft. Used for cushion backs, crafting and foam toppers. The firmer foams are used more when comfort and structural integrity are required

34lb = Medium firmness.  This is often used for couch cushions, dinning room chairs, lounge chairs and love seats. This foam is also utilized in boat cushions and  Often used interior boat seating such as v-berth cushions.

45lb = Firm.   This is a firm foam and predominately used by professional .   It promotes structural integrity so cushions do not sag or dip.   This is often topped with a softer foam or batting to give a cushion a softer feel while offering support.

65lb = Extra firm. The name says it all. This is the foam you want when you need substantial structural integrity and a very firm foam

We offer the service of wrapping your foam in batting so that when you cover it in fabric, it has that "plump" look.   This is most typically done for homes and indoor furniture and for whatever reason its not typically done on boats.  Not that it cant be done on boats, its just not the industry standard.

We have three different Dacron options.

0.5 Inch 1oz Dacron.     This is a low density, low loft, budget option.   Perfect to give the project a little plumping.

1 to 1.5 inch 2oz Dacron.   This is the most popular and is a high quality, high loft batting.   You can expect it to push on the fabric and have a nice feeling to it.

1.5 to 2 inch.  2oz Dacron .   This is the premium product.   Used on projects that need a lot of loft and are going to get a lot of use.
