Not all foam is the same. We will help you find the best high-density foam sheets for your project. Our foam sheets are custom cut to order at 1-6 inch thickness.
Quality:
The first number you see on a piece of foam is often referred to as Density. This is misleading. It actually indicates "Quality."
1.1 Is a lower quality value product used for crafting and some light use furniture projects.
1.8 is a medium quality foam. It is often used for upholstery projects often used in DIY projects. It is not the highest quality but professionals will sometimes use 1.8 for customers concerned about price or when the task does not require a higher end foam.
2.6 is referred to as "Forever foam." This is the foam most people select when investing in a project that they expect to last for many many years. This is the "blue foam" professionals use when hired to fix your favorite chair or couch.
Firmness:
Foam firmness is valuated through a test called Indentation Load Deflection (ILD), also known as Indentation Force Deflection. The numbers below indicate how much force or weight it would take to compress the foam by on inch.
10lb = ultra soft. Used for cushion backs, crafting and foam toppers. The firmer foams are used more when comfort and structural integrity are required
34lb = Medium firmness. This upholstery cushion foam is often used for couch cushions, dining room chairs, lounge chairs and love seats. This foam is also utilized in boat cushions and Often used interior boat seating such as v-berth cushions.
45lb = Firm. This is a firm foam and predominately used by professional . It promotes structural integrity so cushions do not sag or dip. This is often topped with a softer foam or batting to give a cushion a softer feel while offering support.
65lb = Extra firm. The name says it all. This is the foam you want when you need substantial structural integrity and a very firm foam
