Outdoor Sunbrella Fabric: Awning vs. Furniture Weight
Outdoor Sunbrella fabric is a solution-dyed acrylic built to live outside, and we group Sunbrella Canvas into two families so you can match the right weight to the right project.
Group 1: Awning Sunbrella Canvas
Awning canvas is waterproof, thick, and ultra durable against wind, rain, snow, and sun. It is the choice for awnings, canopies, boat covers, and any application that has to shed water and hold its color season after season.
Group 2: Furniture Weight Sunbrella Canvas
Furniture weight, or non-awning, canvas is water friendly and sometimes water repellent. It is softer, easy to sew, and great for outdoor upholstery — cushions, patio seating, pillows, and slipcovers that need drape as well as weather resistance.
Choosing Between the Two
If the fabric will be stretched taut overhead or exposed to standing water, start with awning canvas. If it will be sewn, stuffed, or sat on, start with furniture weight. Both share the same fade-resistant fiber, so you can mix them across a project and expect the colors to hold.
