When you buy any type of fabric by the yard you are actually buying is by the "linear yard."   Nobody calls it this but its true.

Its like buying rope by the foot.    You pay for the length you want.      Its the same with fabric.

A yard is 36 inches.

If the width of the fabric is 54 inches, and you purchase 1 yard, the piece of fabric that you should expect to arrive will be 36x54.

If you buy 2 yards of the same item you will recieve a piece that is 54x72.

If you buy 5 yards of the same item, you will recieve a piece that is 54x180 inches.
